Gordon Wednesday, January 21, 2009Free Software on a Free Flash Drive...![]() One of the new programs we are considering offering to our customers is a Free 4-Gig Flash drive loaded with Free Software and 30-day Software Trials (with purchase of a laptop). Several software programs we would like to offer that are free already are programs such as AVG Anti-virus, Comodo-Firewall, Open Office, LimeWire, Ad-Aware, Quick Time Player. We would also offer preloaded browsers such as Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox onto the flash drive that you can try at your leisure or delete. None of these programs will be installed onto the system before shipping, giving you the option to install it or delete it completely. There are many companies that offer free 30-day trials of their programs such as ADOBE and Microsoft. We will continue to reasearch this program offering and gladly except feedback or suggestions of software programs to offer on our flash drive. What program would you like to see offered? Here is ADOBE CS4 Download page: http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/web/trial/?sdid=ECXJB If you don't know already, Adobe rocks! (well, that's my opinion) G. Saturday, January 17, 20093- Dual screens in 2-weeks![]() Looks like 3 new "dual-screen laptops" have been announced within about a 2-week period as of recent, including our own dual screen laptop, the G400. In late December Lenovo released a few details of their new "dual-screen" or what I would call a "screen and a third", that they showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The ThinkPad W700ds has a main 17-inch LCD screen, along with a 10.6-inch screen that slides out to the right from behind. The second screen can be angled in by about 30 degrees. This laptop weights in at a little over 11 pounds and is priced around $3600. I visited Lenovo website a few days ago and looks like they are not shipping product for "at least 4-weeks" they are stating that their product is the first "dual screen laptop", I suppose we need a new definition of "dual-screen laptop". http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/lenovo-thinkpad-w700ds.aspx The other "dual screen laptop" is being offered is the HP branded Voodoo Firefly prototype, dubbed the “HP Firefly with Voodoo DNA,” a laptop that features a uniquely positioned multi-touch touchpad, dual displays. Just below the large 17.1-inch 1920 x 1200 display is a second 4.3-inch LCD with 800 x 480 resolution, similar to the Fujitsu N7010’s which is found above the keyboard. The secondary screen looks about the size of a business card. http://blog.laptopmag.com/exclusive-hands-on-with-voodoos-firefly-concept-gaming-laptop Last but not least, we here at gScreen Computer released our news about the new 15.4-inch dual screen laptop, the G400, coming to market in 2009. Our first model has identical 15.4-inch, backlit displays and weighs about 7.7 lbs. When you slide the screens out, your looking at over 28-inches of screen width from edge-to-edge for all of your viewing pleasure. www.gscreencorp.com So, this is the latest 3 "new" dual screen laptops to be announced as coming to maket, a few others in the past are: 1. Pennsylvania-based Estari developed a patented dual-screen computer originally for the U.S. military and is now selling its wares to the public. 2- touchscreens, no keyboard. http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-9686982-1.html 2. Asustek Computer has a laptop with a small second screen on the cover: http://www.digitimes.com/systems/a20060928A7037.html 3. Intel's latest portable PC concept: the "metro notebook" http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/04/16/intel_catwalks_concept_pc/ So what is a "dual screen laptop"? G. The dual screen laptop
In 2003, Gordon Alan Stewart began designing our first dual screen laptop, the G100. After creating 3 more dual screen laptop design's ( one is a triple) we posted these designs on the website for a vote from potential customers. Most people who voted liked the G400 design the best, that is why we decided to release it first in the most popular size of 15.4, but as is true with life, things can change and the 17 may be first.
